Practical digital-to-physical production education, operating from Japan.
初めまして、Dan Johnson IVです！
I’m a creator and 3D printer based in Japan. Through About That Life in Japan / ATL, I work on turning digital models into physical pieces, including large figures and multipart resin and FDM projects.
The work involves more than pressing Print. I assess files at the requested size, plan how parts will be made and assembled, and consider materials, machine time and production cost. Those hands-on decisions are the foundation of what I share here.
I created DanJohnsonIV.net to help makers, sculptors and creators approach their own projects with clearer plans. My guides and consultations draw on practical production experience, with a focus on explaining what to check, why it matters and what to do next.
On YouTube, I also share projects and the process behind them. Whether you’re preparing one large model or developing a repeatable workflow, my aim is to make the next decision easier to understand.
KNOWLEDGE BUILT THROUGH MAKING.
My teaching focuses on the decisions that connect a digital model to a physical product: preparation, scale, splitting, keying, printing, assembly and production cost.
This site brings hands-on digital fabrication, 3D printing, large resin projects and physical-product development into an educational business for makers, artists and creator companies.
The workshop and production photographs here document the hands-on work behind the teaching. Project write-ups will explain the decisions and lessons from that work.
TWO BUSINESSES. TWO CLEAR ROLES.
Dan Johnson IV teaches, explains and advises. About That Life handles model preparation, printing and physical manufacturing.
You can learn, use tools and develop your own production decisions here. If you need the work made for you, About That Life provides that separate service.
